Colbar - reminds of time when things were simpler and slower. Surrounding areas are good for a quick. They only accept cash, wide selection of bottled beer.
Away from the city, very peaceful and comfortable! The price of foods are reasonable ant not expensive. Suitable for meditation alone, or family, or friends together.
Located at 9A Whitchurch Road, this quaint eatery serves up a good mix of western and Asian fare. Though a little out of the way, it's retro old school interior offers a glimpse of what life was like back in the 1950's. Must try items on the menu include the cheese omelette with chips and pork chops.
No doubt this old school bar is a nice place to chill. There is a huge variety of beer options from all over the world. Food portion is quite little for the price paid. Quite like the roasted chicken but the fish and chip was a tat disappointing. Never order the mushroom soup - The most terrible and diluted mushroom soup I have ever paid for.
Very unique environment, good place to chill
Wonderful vibe. Efficient service
Good price, good ambiance, and good food. Some interesting selection of beer too
Cool place. Super quiet and popular w the expats.
Fantastic venue as always. Quiet secluded charm with an excellent beer selection
Had the fish and chips ($11), chicken cutlet ($12) and special fried rice ($9). Food was very average, you're basically paying for the decor which is fair. But got told off by a grumpy old lady at the counter for taking photos. What's the point of having a 1950s establishment that's filled with history if you get grumpy when customers take photos? Lame. Not worth visiting.
Rustic old restaurant very good n tasty pork n chicken chop.Nice ambiance..
Good beer selection. A bit pricey. Unfortunately after an hour of waiting my curry chicken never came so I canceled it. All i ate was the fruit snack pack I brought with me...
Great place for food and beer, it’s hidden and far from the hustle and bustle. You can visit this place only via car, as the nearest MRT or bus stops are quite a walk. Nice place for western food, rustic old look British era buildings.
Certainly a place which makes you feel that u are in old Singapore, rustic, green, unhurried. Nice food and drink too . Not if you are in a hurry.
Great ambience, makes you think you are back in 1980s! Thought the western dishes are better than the Chinese ones but still good..
Quaint little place for home cooked western and local dishes and an unpretentious setting.
Brilliant old school western food and a whole range of craft beers to savour from. Definitely a place to visit when you are around portdown area 👍🏻👍🏻
Been a while since I was last year, still retaining it's charm. The hor fun was great. The pork chop was so-so, though chips are good. Has craft beers and ciders.
Great place to idle an afternoon away w family and friends. It serves Hainanese style western food with local delights and lotsa beer. Cash only. No NETs or credit card.
Very interesting place, brings back some nostalgia. They have both Western and Chinese food. Clean area, friendly staff and place was spacious and windy. Just that it's tucked in a little corner. The food was cooked in the 'old school' western style and I loved it. Thanks!
Easily the most laid back bar in Singapore, with a self service beer fridge and a family run kitchen cooking both local dishes and old school British pub food.
Comfort food (great british fry-up) in tropical setting with friendly staff
Old colonial building serving traditional asian cuisine.
Cold drink for ice coffee 50 % price higher than the hot drink. To be frank. The drink so so. Food consider okay.
Didn't get to try the food unfortunately. So cant give a fair review. But this place is so cool in general. Setup in 1953 apparently. Felt like time travel to the 1970s. The fan switch reminded me of my great grand parent house. Will definately come back another day to try the brunch. Very chill and peaceful place. Very interesting find. Surrounded by colonial style houses.
A very nostalgic Cafe nestled within the greens. Quite chill over this place. U can varieties of food from toast, to burgers to western to Chinese... It's a must to at least visit this place once in ur life due to its history.Food wise I think is pretty ok. The fried potatoes are the one that impressed me though. U really can feel they it's cut out thick from a whole potatoe and taste the freshness of it.And do remember to bring cash along as they only accept cash payment.
Nice place to have a meal. Good ambience with a vintage style. The cashier is an elderly who can speak dialect, mandarin and fantastic English. This place is also pet friendly, many customers came with their dogs. There is a large seating area which looks like a school canteen. Grab a table, then make your way to order and pay for your food at the counter. You will be given a number which should be displayed prominently on your table, food will be served to you. However, their food and drinks are on the pricey side. Quality of food can be improved as well. Coffee served here are the 3-in-1 kind and not freshly brewed. This place is also relatively hidden and difficult to reach.
Good food, good beer, great atmosphere
A great place for photos. Prices are high for the food offered. Bring a mosquito patch.
Really yummy food to try; Friendly people
Free parking. Local delights. Dog friendly eatery. Old auntie been here for decades. Good place to chill and for meet ups. Casual dinning.
Amazing place, hidden gem
A nice place, simple witha little historical character. For a drink or for lunch or dinner, I discovered the place before 2008... Today almost no change and this what I really like. it is worth a try and to come back
Average food, lovely ambience. Very nostalgic and peaceful feel. Too often we just go to air con eateries and cannot soak up the atmosphere of the surrounding nature. This one allowed you to in a comfortable setting.
Overpriced food with average food quality. Ambience is interesting and interesting, but there is nothing else to it. $7 for a pathetic small glass of milkshake. Will never go back again.
Tried the hainanese pork chop, not really that great. The sauce too sweet. The pork chop too thick. 2 stars for the environment.
Nice little old school cafe, we tried the fried rice ($6.50), pork cutlet with mushrooms ($13.90), and curry chicken with rice and potato ($13.90). It’s on the pricier side but they offer large servings which can be shared among a few people.
Viisited for lunch a yeaŕ ago, good menu, ,handy cafe.
Hainanese style western food (mainly found in Singapore & Malaysia), nothing fancy, just nice comfort food. Think not many places left serving this type of food. Colbar is also unique as it is a cafe that is disassembled and assembled at a new relocated site. (The Government preserves only buildings of significant heritage or architectural features/design. This is just an ordinary kampong house.)
Yum!This place had an old school vibe to it. Felt like I was in an 80s James Bond movie in which he is assigned a mission in southeast Asia. Placid baby blue and off tan tones, plastic chairs and wicker windows. Felt like a very cultural and necessary experience in Singapore. The food was nothing that blew me away, but all of it tasty in it's own right. Akin to going to a Waffle House in the US - you know what you're getting, you know it's what you want, you know it's not gourmet, but you love it all the same.
Great place to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon.🌞It's like stepping into another dimension, another space and time.🕰One could easily imagine it being featured in some movie of bygone years📺But when my husband explained that Colbar is originally derived from "colonial bar" and that it used to be a canteen frequented by the old British army since 1953, everything made sense.📜I had chicken cutlet with baked beans. I switched out potato wedges for fresh salad and added a sunny side up.🥗🍳While my husband tried their famed Hainanese Pork Chop with sauce on the side with a sunny side up add-on.🍳We'll definitely be back to try the other food items, especially when I crave that oh so familiar, homely comfort food!
So so. Prices was generally on the high side for a simple non aircon place. Curry beef was $15 with no sides. Only curry n plain rice.
Relax and nice environment with the old days in 60 /70. High ceiling and fan setup which you feel cool. Nice food from the menu which you might need to order extra
Didn’t have time for the food. Food price looks at the high side as compare to hawker food. But the atmosphere no hawker center can compare against this place. Came to this place because of my Tanglin halt heritage tour. Love at 1st sight.
Fish and chips was pretty aite. But what was great about this place was the rustic vibes that enabled a pleasant hangout with my friends.
Unapologetic British stodge like ox liver, peas and chips, served by grumpy uncles in mosquito-laden garden shed at twice hawker prices. But hey, it's a local legend entirely unchanged in 60+ years, and the food tastes exactly the way it looks.
The food quality can be improve future.
Cool place that mommy has come since her young days.Tried Hainanese Pork chop, which is sweet and sour pork cutlet haha, nice.Roasted chicken and mushrooms, saltiness is perfect, those crazy fragrant chips, potatoes that is. Good.
Small portion food, taste notjing special...
Very nice place, old school feel. Felt like I wasn't in the Singaporean urban jungle. Food is rustic.
